Dear art lovers,

Welcome to the beginning of 2024 – the starting point of a new journey and for me personally the beginning of an unknown adventure, which invites us all to witness, experience and make meaning of the world around us.

Personally, I have been deeply affected by a very drastic event, which will give this journey a special charge and meaning. As I continue to draw inspiration from the tragedy of the association, my works promise both reflection and a harbinger of exciting new creations.

The new year starts with various exhibitions.
Next week, from January 19-21, I will participate in the art weekend 'The New Artists' in Namur with a small selection of my works.
And in the first weekend of May, May 5-6, I will participate in Atelier in Beeld for the first time.
Maybe our paths will cross there. The new artist exhibition January 19-20-21, 2024 Salle de L'Arsenal Atelier in beeld May 5-6 https://www.atelierinbeeld.be/nl/artist/geert-heirbaut

Enter with these works on paper in my imaginary world. These abstract works challenges your imagination. Thin lines, thick lines swarm together and possible heads, legs, arms appear, allowing for different interpretations.

Animal Room 1

Starting a new serie of acryl paintings on canvas.

This serie is about Animal Rooms.
The idea is that each painting depicts an animal (not literally) where you can feel its emotions.
This is of course not meant to show a simplified caricature, but rather to express behaviors, feelings that we all know. This painting, the Walrus Room, at first sight a rather brutal painting, aims to be more an intimate space in which you muse about the day like a walrus and in which all kinds of feelings bubble up.

A PAPER / A DAY - DAG 21

Every day in October a drawing is selected by various curators at Kunstwerkt.be as the drawing of the day. On day 21 Imge Ozbilge chose this drawing

Yet another weird thing. It looks like an animal, a horse, a buffalo. I don't know. Does it matter?
2021, 45 x 30 cm, brush, Indian ink on paper (https://www.instagram.com/kowalsky_days/)

"Dynamism in one frame. As a visual artist working with moving images it always fascinates me when one single drawing can sometimes have so much more movement than an animated work. This drawing of Geert Heirbaut gives me the feeling of 12 frames on one single sheet. The black and white contrast and the graphical compositing add an extra layer on top of the vivid and liquid lines of ink."

The Influence of A Paper / A Day
PART 1

During the third edition of A Paper / A Day, so many artists already shared their daily or sporadic drawing with an audience. You can find all that drawing talent under the hashtag #apaperaday21. The last day of the challenge starts. An ideal moment to let a few 'favorite artists' talk about their drawing routine.

I'm very pleased to show this exhibition.

This is a virtual exhibition about art made during this lockdown.
This virtual exhibition has four rooms, each room highlighting an aspect of the lockdown.

When the lockdown caused a complete standstill in society, we became silent and motionless.

The lockdown itself was the easiest part to follow and left us perplexed how to deal with the extra available free time. The unexpected situations did not prevent looming problems from uprising.

We missed our friends so I wrote art letters as in the old days. And as the lockdown eases slowly, there is now perhaps more uncertainty and fear than even when we entered it. But in the midst of all this, nothing prevents us from dreaming and dealing with our human-made boundaries.

I hope you will have a great time at this virtual online exhibition.
